The Chicago Bears faced the Oakland Raiders in London on October 6. Here are highlights from the game.

Entering the game, the Chicago Bears were expected to jump out to a big lead and dominate on the defensive end. However, it did not play out this way. The Oakland Raiders didn’t allow a sack and were able to pull through with a win following a game-sealing interception by Gareon Conley late in the fourth quarter. They defeated the Bears 24-21 to improve to 3-2.

First Quarter

Neither team could get anything going in the first quarter as they both had long drives that resulted in punts. The big moment in the first quarter, however, was when Akiem Hicks injured his elbow on a Josh Jacobs carry. He would not return. From this point on, there seemed to be little to no pressure on Derek Carr, allowing him to complete 25 of 32 passing attempts for 229 yards. The Bears have been so dominant so far this season, constantly pressuring opposing quarterbacks. Hicks’ injury was a huge loss.

Second Quarter

The Raiders exploded in the second quarter for 17 unanswered points. First came a 12-yard Josh Jacobs rushing touchdown. A quick Chase Daniel interception put the Raiders right back into the red zone. Backup running back DeAndre Washington took a carry and powered through defenders for another rushing touchdown, giving the Raiders a 14-0 lead halfway through the quarter. A pair of punts ended the disappointing half for the Bears as they went into the locker room, hoping to turn it around in the second half.

Third Quarter

The Bears’ embarrassment in the first half propelled them to get some points on the board. Derek Carr’s decision to run for the first down early in the second half proved fatal as it led to a fumble, recovered by who else but Khalil Mack. Following the turnover, the Bears’ offense started to click. The third quarter featured three straight Bears touchdowns: a David Montgomery rush and back-to-back Allen Robinson catches, including a 16-yard strike from Chase Daniel. The Bears scored 21 unanswered points to take the 21-17 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter

Despite a somewhat uneventful fourth quarter, it ended beautifully for the Raiders. A long 13-play, 97-yard drive ended in a Josh Jacobs rushing touchdown, his second of the day. The Raiders now led by seven points, but would give Chase Daniel a chance for a game-tying field goal or a game-winning touchdown. There was only 1:57 remaining on the clock. 45 seconds later, Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley made the play of the game when he picked off Chase Daniel on a deep shot to Anthony Miller.

The Raiders were victorious in London.

Highlights

The Oakland Raiders’ win puts them at 3-2 and comes against one of their tougher opponents this season. As a result, the Raiders move into second place in the AFC West due to the shocking Los Angeles Chargers loss to the Denver Broncos this past Sunday. Meanwhile, the Bears drop to 3-2 and third place in the NFC North heading into their Week 6 bye.
